Susan Koster & Brandon Martin
"Having the opportunity to transfer the beauty of the seas and the skies, and the ethereal feel of the beach, onto various mediums and print, and to share our travel images and stories with others, is literally our dream come true. Whether we are working together oceanside, or in the heart of a far off city, we live for the medium and hope that you see it shine through in our work." —Silver Sun Photography
Our shared love for photography, the outdoors, and travel, led us together rather quickly—after reconnecting 15 years after working together at a Texas Roadhouse. With over 20 years of love and dedication to the art of photography each, we started dreaming right away about creating a photography business together.
The dream began to unfold into a reality, as we sat together with pen and paper, creating our company name. Silver Sun Photography was officially born in March 2020, two weeks before the pandemic hit the US.
Being quarantined together at the beach, and homeschooling a 7 year old, wasn't the first thing we had in mind for our photography business, but it sure kept it interesting!
Once strict quarantine measures were lifted, and we were allowed to explore the outdoors, we took to the beaches, and began creating our dramatic and serene Oceanscape images and art.
And as travel opportunities improved throughout the year, we zipped off for the first time as Silver Sun Photography, and captured dramatic winter landscapes in West Virginia, and iconic cityscapes of New York City.
By the close of the wildest, most unimaginable year we've experienced in our lifetime, we somehow pulled off our dream together. Having the opportunity to transfer the beauty of the seas and the skies, and the ethereal feel of the beach, onto various mediums and print, and to share our travel images and stories with others, is literally our dream come true. Whether we are working together oceanside, or in the heart of a far off city, we live for the medium and hope that you see it shine through in our work!
More About Susan
I've had the pleasure of working professionally as a photojournalist for local and national newspapers, magazines, marketing and advertising agencies, as well as privately owned businesses specializing in weddings, events, and sports. I became an award-winning outdoor photographer right out of college, after entering my first competition.
My love for photojournalism began as a child, with my first National Geographic magazine. This inspired me to get behind the lens in high school, where I learned the ins and outs of darkroom and film photography. I continued studying the art form through college—while also immersing myself in digital photography, print making, Photoshop, and various other methods.
Over the years, with a camera in hand, I seek out the intricacies within an environment, taking in the details that are all around. Known to do what it takes to get the photo I'm envisioning, you'll see me happily covered in sand at the beach, or running through water to snap that shot.
More About Brandon
Photography has been a part of my life since my first trip to Europe at age 13. With a 35mm point and shoot Pentax in hand, I explored Poland photographically and the fire was lit!
Since that first trip to Europe, I've traveled the world, photographing Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, with New Zealand, Italy, and Indonesia having the greatest personal impact. I'm drawn to simple, clean compositions, the less distraction the better for the final image. I pursued the craft of long exposure early on in my studies, and later, found my way to abstract techniques. I use those techniques to bring more focus to the play of lines, colors, and texture—the basic building blocks of classic composition. My long exposure and abstract images are regularly featured on Flickrs home page.
I grew up in Ocean City, Maryland, the home of Silver Sun Photography. I'm drawn to the ocean, and outdoors. My dedication and studies in the art form over the years, allows me to share the technical skills of photography, and how to produce a high-quality image, with fellow photographers looking to master the intricacies of the art form.
